Roethlisberger Suspended (Click Here to Leave/Read Comments)

Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been suspended six games by commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The suspension comes just one week after Roethlisberger escaped charges in a case involving a 20 year old college student who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub. In addition to the suspension, the two time Super Bowl winning Quarterback will also be required to undergo a comprehensive behavioral evaluation. Until he has completed the evaluation, Roethlisberger will not be allowed to attend off season activities or workouts. Roethlisberger is the first player to be suspended for violating the leagues personal conduct policy without being arrested or charged with a crime.
The commissioner did state that it would be possible for the suspension to be shortened to four games based on good behavior. If the suspension does last all six games, it would cost Roethlisberger $2.8 million. Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Steeler Quarterback has had to deal with this type of accusation as he is also being sued by a woman who accused him of raping her at a Lake Tahoe hotel-casino in 2008. While he denied the allegations and was not charged, it seems as if Roethlisberger needs to be more aware of what type of situations he puts himself in. I could believe that there are crazy people out there who are looking to take advantage of a celebrity with the sole purpose of financial gain, but how many times is this going to happen to Big Ben? There are actually stories out that the first time this happened it was completely pre mediated as the original girl even got called out by friends who stated that her sole purpose was to put herself in a situation where she could swindle some money from a star. My biggest problem is Roethlisberger needs to be smarter about where and who he hangs out with. Now there are trade rumors swirling around Big Ben and while I don't agree with trading away a franchise Quarterback, the Steelers are a proud franchise which doesn't like to have their image ruined. You saw how fast they traded Santonio Holmes when he had off field issues. While a star Quarterback is a completely different story than a wide receiver, it will be interesting to see what happens with Big Ben over the next few days.
