2010 NFL Draft (Click Here to Leave/Read Comments)

2010 NFL Draft Round 1
Last night at Radio City Music Hall, the Rams kicked off the NFL draft by selecting Oklahoma Quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford who missed much of last year with a shoulder injury will most likely be plugged right into the starting lineup for a St. Louis Rams team that won only one game last year. Bradford was followed by a parade of fellow Big 12 players as 5 of the first 6 players came from Big 12 schools. After Bradford, the Detroit Lions selected (DT) Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska. Suh, the AP Player of the Year, won the Lombardi, Bednarik, and Nagurski trophies in 2009 and is being touted as the best lineman prospect in years. Here is what the rest of the top 5 picks looks like:

Tampa Bay Bucs – Gerald McCoy (DT – Oklahoma)
Washington Redskins - Trent Williams (T – Oklahoma)
Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Berry (S – Tennessee)

After CJ Spiller went to the Bills at number 9, that’s when things got interesting. Jacksonville selected DT Tyson Alualu from Cal who most experts projected to land somewhere in the second round. San Francisco then dealt for Denver’s pick to move up two spots and get Rutgers OT Anthony Davis. The Chargers then jumped from 28th overall to 12th in a trade with Miami to try and fill the huge void left behind by Ladanian Tomlinson. The Chargers took Fresno State’s Ryan Mathews, the nation’s leading rusher at 150.7 yards per game. The Broncos then sent the 13th overall choice they got from the 49ers to Philadelphia, which they used on Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham. Later on in the draft, Denver traded up to get Demaryius Thomas who was the first WR to go. Two picks later, the Cowboys also traded up to pick up Dez Bryant who some are saying is the steal of the draft at 24. Dallas believes that Bryant's character issues are blown out of proportion and added the star receiver to an offense already filled with weapons. New England used a pick they got from Dallas to get Devin McCourty of Rutgers while Miami traded with the Chargers to move up and grab DT Jared Odrick of Penn State and finally the Lions traded with the Vikings to move up and grab speedy running back Jahvid Best from Cal.

New York Giants #15 – Jason Pierre-Paul
The Giants have a history of drafting pass rushers and Pierre-Paul has a ton of upside. While some experts feel that Pierre-Paul hasn’t really been challenged playing 2 years of junior college and 1 year at South Florida his physical skill set is simply too good to overlook, and he should be able to contribute as a third-down guy at worst as a rookie. He’s inexperienced and raw but he could be a monster down the road.

New York Jets #29 – Kyle Wilson
The rich get richer as probably the best cornerback in the draft comes to a team already stacked with talent at corner. Wilson plays very physical, applies pressure, and does a great job finding the football. The Jets will likely ask him to step in immediately as a nickel back and he will also be given the opportunity to return kicks. The Jets made a great pick getting Wilson so late in Round 1 and he fits their game plan of covering and blitzing with their deep backs perfectly.
