In a military operation that took only minutes, US forces made up of a team of elite counter-terrorism troops launched an operation targeted at killing Osama Bin Laden after receiving information from the CIA on his whereabouts. Four others were also killed in the attack including bin Laden's son. Bin Laden's body was later buried at sea and was handled in keeping with Muslim customs. Bin Laden's death has resulted in years of intelligence work and a lead that was received within the last few months.
While I'm not sure if closure is a fair word to use, as many families will never recover from their losses from the attacks on 9/11, I think it's fair to say that today is a great day for the United States. Watching the images of people celebrating in front of the White House and in the streets of New York and then the brilliant speech delivered by President Obama gave me chills. Once again, thank you to all of the men and women serving in our military that fight this war on terrorism every day.
