New York/New Jersey Awarded 2014 Super Bowl (Click Here to Leave/Read Comments)

NCAA Lacrosse: BIG CITY Classic - North Carolina vs Virginia APR 10
Using secret ballots, the 32 NFL owners voted to put the 2014 Super Bowl in the brand new $1.6 billion Meadowlands Stadium. This means that for the first time in Super Bowl history, the game will be played at a cold weather site without a dome. I think this is a great idea. I've heard the argument that it's a championship game and weather should not be allowed to play a part in the game but I disagree for a few reasons:

1. Every other game, including the AFC and NFC championship games, have the possibility of being played in frigid weather with the possibility of snow. So what are we saying, weather can be a factor in the games that decide who gets to the Super Bowl but not in the Super Bowl itself?

2. Weather enhances the game to me. Some of the greatest games in the history of the NFL were played in the cold or snow. Exhibit A: the tuck rule game.

3. If you are the league you wouldn't mind at all if there was some snow for the game. From the research I've done, snow games always get great ratings which you know only means more money. Besides, when you were a younger and it snowed, the first thing you did with your friends was play a snow football game. Everyone loves football in the snow.

4. Weather could be a factor at other sites. What about the Colt vs. Bear Super Bowl which was played in a monsoon? Should we play every game in a dome now to completely eliminate weather altogether?

The only thing that could potentially be a problem is if the area gets slammed with a Nor'Easter snow storm that drops more than a foot of snow. Even if that did happen, I'm sure the NFL would find a way to get the roads and the field clear to play the game. I'm looking forward to a Super Bowl in my area and I think it's great for the area and for the league. Not to mention the fact that I'm looking forward to watching all of the phony so called, "football fans" that go to the Super Bowl sit there and freeze. We all know that most of the people who are lucky enough to go to a Super Bowl don't know the difference between a Touchdown and a Home Run. So while it might come of as being a little jealous, I'm glad those people might be a little uncomfortable at the game!
