Mic's Picks: Preakness (Click Here to Leave/Read Comments)

HORSE RACING 2009: Rachel Wins 134th Preakness
As expected, the Kentucky Derby winner, Super Saver, will be the favorite for today's Preakness, however this field looks to have a lot of live "long shots". The Derby favorite, Lookin At Lucky, has run into nothing but bad luck for his whole career. With a new jockey, I'm thinkin Lucky's luck will finally change. Here are my picks:

1. Lookin At Lucky - Running from the 20 slot in the derby, Lucky hit bad traffic right away and got lost in the shuffle early on in the race. Even with all his traffic problems, Lucky did make up about seven lengths on the winner and showed some nice speed. I think with this smaller field, the chance of getting lost in the shuffle is eliminated and Lucky runs a clean race.

2. Super Saver - Has been lightly raced for a 3 year old and has shown signs that he can improve with age and experience. Used to be a speed horse but during the Derby showed the ability to stalk and have enough in the tank to close.

3. Dublin - Adds jockey Garret Gomez, one of the most respected jockeys in the business, which should be a big improvement over his Derby jockey. Was bothered by the traffic at the Derby, but this smaller field should be more to his liking. Is always close in these races and I think he may put it together a little bit here at the Preakness.

If you want to take a chance on a long shot...try these horses:
Yawanna Twist, Schoolyard Dreams, or Paddy O'Prado.
