Vanderbilt v Murray State
Day 1 of the NCAA tournament produced more first round upsets than any other in recent history. For the first time since 2006 not one but two 13 seeds pulled off upsets. Murray State used a buzzer beater to defeat Vanderbilt while Georgetown got it’s doors blown off by Ohio. The first round also saw two 6 seeds get knocked off. Notre Dame watched it’s star player Luke Harangody score a measly 4 points as the Irish got edged by Old Dominion while Marquette got picked off by Washington.

Rough day for the Big East huh? Many people believed the Big East to be the strongest conference in all of College Basketball however Day 1 saw some of the Big East’s strongest teams falter. In addition to Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Marquette all taking an early exit from the tournament, Villanova survived a scare from Robert Morris who gave them all they could handle.
I can’t ever remember there being so many upsets to start a tournament. Add in the fact that three games went to overtime (one game to double overtime) and this may have been one of the most exciting days in NCAA Tournament history.

Hope your brackets are still somewhat intact. Enjoy the games this weekend
